Why Wait for What's Happening Now?

Where did this hunger for accessing information and constantly knowing what’s happening around the globe come from? It started with the written word, of course, and soon it was necessary that all articles have some sort of picture to go with them.  Then TV came along and we could see the written word had come to life on the big screen.  Our desire for an all access view of the world was only heightened with the advent of the Internet.

So, what’s the big deal about the Internet? Well, it’s immediate, it’s all access, and it’s raw.  Now you can find out what’s going on around the corner or around the world with a click on the mouse. It used to be that something published yesterday was old news, but now it seems that something published ten minutes ago is old news.  With every website, whether it is about the news, sports, interviews, etc. are using videos and pictures to supplement the written word. It seems only logical that this addiction to being constantly updated and in-the-know would evolve to include live video.  People are sick of choice words and over-edited videos on the Internet.  People scramble to see the newest and most scandalous videos on YouTube before they are taken off. We want it now and we want it real.

This is where Flixwagon comes in.  By arming everyday people, newscasters, politicians, musicians, artists, etc. with live mobile broadcast capabilities, people can stay updated in ways that have never been possible before.  This is live.  This is real mobile broadcasting with no edits, no directors, no nothing; just the truth of what’s happening. Jeff Jarvis brought up an interesting point in his blog when he said that:

“Nobody would have had any reason to know that I was on the last PATH train into the World Trade Center on 9/11 but if I’d had the phone I had now, I would have been broadcasting the news from eye-level — not from rooftops three miles away — as it happened.”

That’s what we want.  The next step is implementing live mobile broadcasting on every website.  How else can you display a story faster?  A journalist can’t even write the story that fast, forget about a good story.  But honestly, who needs the words when you can see what’s happening, as its happening and form your own opinion?
